This One Decision Saved His Life In the Sri Lanka Blasts

Colombo Blast - Sakshi Post

Kolkata: He was supposed to go to the hotel's restaurant for breakfast. But he felt lazy and decided to have it in the lounge instead. After he got over his meal, he went to the room to take his medicines. It was then the explosion occurred at the entrance and he was saved.

This is the miraculous escape for Chelvadurai Harendran, who is supervising the Rameswara Group Enterprise's infrastructure project in Colombo.

The group's residential-cum-commercial project, 'Altair', is under-construction by Indocean Developers — a firm of six conglomerates mostly from Kolkata. At 240 metres, it is said to be one of the tallest buildings in the country's capital once completed.

The group's chairman Jugal Kishore Khetawat said that he was making frantic calls to his employees when he heard the news to inquire about their status. Khetawat is one of the directors of the project. He said that one of the project managers was staying at the Shangri-La Hotel, one of the venues where the blast occurred.

At least 290 people were killed and around 500 people were wounded in eight blasts that took place at churches, hotels and a guest house that struck the island nation on Easter Sunday.

Sri Lankan minister and government spokesperson, Rajitha Senaratne, on Monday said a local outfit identified as the National Tawheed Jamath is suspected of plotting the serial blasts.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena will declare a nationwide emergency from midnight on Monday.
