Christchurch Shootings: 9 Indian Origin People Missing

New Delhi/Christchurch: In the shootings which took place at two mosques in Christchurch where 49 people lost their lives, nine people of Indian origin are found to be missing.

A gunman, identified as an Australian extremist, live-streamed the shooting during the Friday prayers, killing the victims from close range. The gunman even published a “manifesto” referring to the immigrants as “invaders”.

The Indian envoy in New Zealand revealed that nine people from India or of Indian origin have been missing after the shooting which took place on Friday.

In this regard, several prominent leaders in the country responded to the attack and offered their condolences.

The leader of AIMIM (All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen Party), Asaduddin Owaisi on Twitter shared that two Indians died in the attacks while another person is battling for his life.

He also sought help from Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj for the brother of one of the victims, who is from Hyderabad and wants to go to New Zealand for support.

The foreign ministry on Friday evening issued a statement which read,


Condemning the shooting, New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described the country’s worst-ever mass shooting, as a terrorist attack.
