Woman Sells Own Baby To Meet Husband’s Medical Expenses

Uttar Pradesh: Unable to meet the medical expenses of her bed-ridden husband, a woman from Bareily sold her 15-days old baby for Rs 42,000.

The incident came to light after the neighbours failed to find Sanju Devi's baby at the working site. According to reports, Sanju Devi is getting her husband Harswaroop Maurya treated at a hospital, after a wall collapsed on him at a construction site three months ago. She had already taken a loan from a local money lender, which was not sufficient for further treatment. So the woman decided to sell her baby to pay her husband's medical bill.

Based on the complaint of the locals, the police registered a case. "The family will be provided with better medical help and we will soon trace the baby and reunite the mother and daughter," the police said.
