Woman killed by youth

Kurukshetra: A 40-year-old woman was allegedly murdered on Monday  by a youth who owed her money. Ravi Kumar (27), a resident of Sonepat, murdered Kavita at her residence in Azad Nagar colony  on Monday

Ravi owed Rs 20,000 to Kavita and when he did not return the money on time, she informed his uncle at Sonepat about it, Superintendent of Police Simardeep Singh said.

Feeling offended that Kavita maligned his reputation by complaining to his uncle, the SP said Kumar visited Kavita at her residence and allegedly assaulted her with sharp-edged knife while she was preparing tea for the accused.

Singh said that after coming out of her house, the assailant held a child hostage with knife and asked child's father to hand over his motorcycle parked nearby. While Kumar was trying to escape on the motorcycle, four persons, who were playing cards nearby, chased the accused and caught him.

Later, he was handed over to the police. The victim was wife of Karam Chand, who is posted in the State Agriculture Department at Panchakula. She was alone at home when the incident took place, the SP said.

Singh said a case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered against the accused and further probe was on.
