Woman gang-raped while couple goes house-hunting
Mumbai: In a gruesome incident, a 28-year-old woman was allegedly tied up and gang-raped by eight persons at Amboli late on Monday night, the city police said here on Tuesday.
Seven persons, one of them a history-sheeter, were arrested and the local Amboli police are trying to track the eighth attacker. The police swung into action following a complaint by the husband and the victim, the police said.
Mumbai's Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Dudhe, who is also the police spokesman, said the couple had gone house-hunting in the Shyamnagar slums in Jogeshwari with a woman estate agent.
Since it got late, the couple stayed back at the estate agent's home on Monday night, the Diwali New Year.
That was when, a gang of eight local youths, aged between 20 and 25, saw them and went inside the tenement.
They threatened the husband and forced him to leave the tenement, tied up the woman and took turns to rape her.
The accused men were presented before a magistrate court in Andheri on Tuesday afternoon and were remanded in police custody till November 4.
The condition of the woman, who was admitted to a local hospital, was reported to be stable, Dudhe added.
The incident brought alive the memories of the infamous gang-rape incident inside the desolate Shakti Mills complex in central Mumbai in 2013 which had shaken Mumbaikars.
