Why did the TDP, BJP MPs stage a dharna?
Why did three MPs - two from the ruling party at the state and another from the party that is ruling at the Centre- stage a dharna at the West Godavari zilla parishad office?
Not for people's problems, not for power supply to the farm sector, not even for ration supply for the poor, but to support the TDP leaders who were arrested for organising betting and cock-fights, which are officially banned.
The police arrested as many as 17 TDP men were arrested for organising and betting on cock-fights at Dwaraka Tirumala in West Godavari district. They also seized cash from them.
MPs Maganti Babu, Maganti Muralimohan, Gokaraju Gangaraju and other TDP local readers demanded the police to release them immediately. They even staged a dharna at the district ZP office against the police action and created tension for sometime.
However, the police intervened and brought the situation under their control.
Recently, the Andhra Pradesh High Court took serious view of the cock-fights and directed West Godavari collector and SPs to take strict action on people who organise and take part in these fights.
