Who will be Hyderabad's First Citizen?
Hyderabad: With TRS recording a historic win in the Greater Hyderabad elections, everyone is curious to know who will be the next Mayor. Although the TRS has been mum on this issue till now, supporters say it may come down to one of these two candidates.
The Mayor of a city is traditionally referred to as the First Citizen. Although the executive functionary is the Municipal Commissioner, the Mayor is the face of the city's governance. While parties like the Congress had announced their Mayor candidate ahead of the elections, the TRS party on its part, has been conspicuously silent on projecting its Mayor candidate.
Bonthu Rammohan from Cherlapally division and Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, daughter of MP K.Keshav Rao from Banjara Hills division appear to be the main contenders for the post.
Bonthu Rammohan is said to have been active in the TRS party for a while. He has reportedly been making himself visible throughout the city through various activities. He however might get tough contestation from Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, the Banjara Hills division candidate by virtue of her father K.Keshav Rao holding a strong affiliation to the TRS leadership.
Another possible contender might be Jagadishwar Goud, the winner from Madhapur division. However his recent move from the Congress to the TRS might be seen as opportunist. Both Jagadishwar and his wife had contested to get elected as Corporators; Jagadishwar from Madhapur and Poojitha, his wife, from Hafizpet.
With no clarity being given on this matter by the TRS leadership, except that it would a collective decision, the jury is still out on who will be Hyderabad's First Citizen.
Meanwhile, the Congress party's Mayor candidate Vikram Goud, son of ex-MP Mukesh Goud has lost the election, contesting from Jambagh division; so too has Banda Karthika Reddy, the ex- Mayor.
