Drinking Coffee During Pregnancy Has Risks - Sakshi Post

In today’s times, where people have sedentary lifestyles and do not have fixed sleeping patterns, their lives are often dependent on caffeine. The most popular sources of caffeine are coffee and tea which work as the energy boosters and pain relievers.

The consumption of caffeine is considered safe for the people but it is very important to limit and control the consumption of caffeine while expecting.

Risks Associated with Consuming Caffeine during Pregnancy

Drinking coffee during pregnancy is associated with several risks as increased consumption of caffeine increases the blood pressure levels. The increased level of blood pressure of the mother has adverse effects on the baby as well. Caffeine filter outs the tissues of the body making it difficult for the mother and the baby.

The breakdown time taken for caffeine in the body of the prospective mother is generally longer and is often passed from the mother to the baby. This delay in the mother’s body often hampers the proper growth of the baby and lead to several side effects like miscarriages, hampered growths and several abnormalities.

The consumption of Caffeine can also cause unnecessary anxiety, headache and can also disturb the sleep cycle of expecting mother.

Not only this, the consumption of caffeine also hampers the chances of conception. It is vital that while trying to conceive or even after conception the women, must cut down their caffeine consumption to just one cup throughout the day.

This practice can be really difficult for people who consume generous amounts of caffeine.

However, here are some points for people who focus on cutting down their caffeine:

1. Go for green tea instead. The green tea contains fewer amounts of caffeine but it also boasts numerous health benefits for the expecting mother. Green tea helps in easy digestion and ensures that the mother doesn’t gain unnecessary weight during pregnancy. Green Tea is also very good for skin health.

2. One can also opt for drinking black tea. Tea contains caffeine it does not have as undesirable effects on fertility like coffee. Black tea contains some amounts of caffeine but much lesser than coffee making it a nice option.

3. There is nothing like coffee for coffee lovers but try on switching to healthier options during pregnancy. Go for options like fresh smoothies, coconut water, fresh juices, milk and healthy drinks. Cut down on caffeine as much as possible and stay healthy.

4. Stay hydrated throughout the day. Drink as much as water as you can. Try and consume at least 3-4 liters of water every day.
