Wearing Bindi made mandatory atop Tirumala
Wearing the Bindi on the forehead has been made mandatory not only for the pilgrims visiting the world famous Tirumala Hills but also to the Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD) staff members.
“There is no excuse now. Right from the top officers to the lower rung staff members, all should wear the Bindi on their forehead. Serious action will be initiated if any staff member is found violating this norm,” TTD Executive Officer (EO) L V Subrahmanyam told mediapersons in Tirumala today. The rule is already in force for the pilgrims visiting this globally renowned temple.
The new norm comes into immediate effect, the EO said adding that all the staff members, irrespective of their cadre, should strictly follow the religious traditions laid down for them to uphold the culture and heritage of the Hindu temples. The TTD Trust Board has decided to set up libraries with spiritual books and other material at every district headquarters town in the State and the expenditure will be borne by the TTD, Subrahmanyam said.
Hailing the TTD decision, former EO of the temple PVRK Prasad, who was present at the media conference, too felt that those strictly follow the religious traditions only should be retained on the TTD roles while others can be asked to quit if they are feeling any discomfort to follow the norms. Wearing the Bindi on the forehead is an age-old tradition and this should be implemented strictly on the world famous Tirumala Hills, Prasad added.
