Water ATMs to quench parched throats in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: In order to quench the parched throats of people of Hyderabad as dog days are already here, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board is planning to set up water ATMs which will dispense a litre of chilled water from kiosks for Rs.1.
The unique proposal was suggested by B Janardhan Reddy Managing Director of HMWS&SB during a review meeting here on Monday.
“It would take some time to implement the plan. It is mainly for pedestrians as they don’t have water to drink,” said a water board official.
Apart from the mooted proposal to tackle the water woes, the water board officials are taking measures to provide relief to public. Presently the HMWS&SB is getting water from Nagarjunasagar (110 km) and Yellampally (186 km). Considering this, Janardhan Reddy has urged public to conserve water.
In view of its 100-day plan for city's development,1000 rain water structures would be set up to restore the groundwater.
Apart from this, self-help groups (SHGs) have been directed to collect water dues from the defaulters and keep a check on delivery of water by tankers.
