Warangal Bridegroom Set on Fire Days Before Wedding

Warangal: A 24-year-old Warangal bridegroom was set afire days before wedding on Sunday by some unknown assailants while he was busy talking to the bride on the phone. The incident took place at Raghunathpally village in Jangoan district near Warangal.

The Bridegroom, Yakaiah, was engaged to a girl from Madaram village 20 days ago and the marriage was scheduled to take place on February 21. The bridegroom constructed a new house and invited all his relatives and neighbours to attend the house warming function on Sunday.

On Sunday night, he got a call from the bride and was speaking to her outside the house while a group of people spilled petrol on him and set him on fire.

Family members and relatives rushed him to the hospital after hearing his screams and he was immediately shifted to MGM hospital with 50 per cent burns.

Earlier, a group of people attacked Yakaiah's father mistaking him to be the bridegroom. The family had not taken the incident seriously as they were busy with the marriage preparations.

“As there was no phone network inside the house, I came out of to speak to the bride,” the victim said.

The police registered a case and are trying to nab the assailants.
