Wanted man in 200 chain snatching cases held

A young history-sheeter allegedly involved in about 200 cases of chain-snatching in the city has been arrested by the police.

Police also recovered 1 kg gold jewellery from Mohd Aqueeluddin alias Khalifa (19), after he was nabbed during vehicle-checking at Saidabad in Hyderabad last evening, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma told reporters on Sunday.

Sharma said police were now looking for his two accomplices, one of whom was just 17 years old.

The trio rode motorbike to target the victim and flee after snatching the chain. Since January, they were suspected to be involved in  27 cases, Sharma said.

Aqueeluddin had been arrested in December last year, for involvement in 169 snatching cases since 2010. But he got out on bail and resumed his `trade'.

Apart from gold jewellery, police also recovered a car, a bike and other articles worth Rs 30 lakh from his possession.
