Goa ZP election: Polling begins on dull note

Panaji:Polling began on a dull note for the zilla parishad in Goa on Wednesday.


This is the first time that ZP polls are being held based on partylines and due to this these have become veritable show of strength for all major contenders. While Congress and NCP have kept away from the polls, Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and Goa Vikas Party are contesting the elections.Both these parties have formed an alliance and the NCP has extended support to the alliance in some key constituencies.
A total of 149 candidates are contesting for 50 constituencies. The total number of polling stations is 1209.
