Voter cards to be upgraded as smart cards

State Chief Election Commissioner Bhanwarlal said efforts were being made to convert all the voter cards as smart cards. He told reporters at Kadapa on Friday that the voters' list would be scrutinized and made changes in June and July this year.

Voter cards would be distributed within a month if they anybody registered themselves through online, he said and appealed to the people to enroll themselves as voters without fail if they were eligible. He reviewed the updates in the voters' list with the officials. Replying to a question, he said elections to the Assembly and the Parliament would be held in 2014, so that the year 2013 was identified as voters enrollment year.
