Vizag: Alert locals foil bid to loot ATM cash

Alert locals foiled the attempt of three masked miscreants to rob an unguarded ATM counter near the Muralinagar area under Kanchrapalam police station limits, in Visakhapatnam late Monday night, the police said.

One of them broke open a door of an ATM machine with an iron rod, while two of his accomplices stood guard outside the State Bank of Hyderabad ATM counter near Muralinagar.
However, as he tried to open the next door of the ATM, they were spotted by locals commuting in the area and had to flee the the spot, after passers by tried to nab them. The bank had not appointed a security guard at the ATM counter, the police said.
A case has been registered and the police said that they have begun a probe based on closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage from the ATM counter.
