Venkaiah Naidu Is NDA Vice-Presidential Candidate
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu will be the NDA’s candidate for the upcoming Vice-Presidential elections. BJP national president Amit Shah announced this at a press conference held after the parliamentary board decided to field the stalwart from South.
"Venkaiah ji has a lot of experience, all NDA allies have welcomed this decision. He is most suitable for the post and the decision was unanimous,” Shah said. For the past couple of days, there were frenzied speculations about Venkaiah's candidature and adding fuel to the speculation fire, Venkaiah on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and spoke with BJP chief Amit Shah.
Venkaiah Naidu began as an RSS activist and was a top leader of the ABVP in Andhra Pradesh before joining politics. He was also in the forefront of Jai Andhra agitation of 1972. He was BJP national president for two years and has been the BJP's most important face in the South India.
The Opposition, led by the Congress has already announced the candidature of Gopalkrishna Gandhi. The last date for filing of nominations is July 18 and the polling would be held on August 5.
