Washington: The US on Sunday “strongly” condemned the terrorist attack on an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir that killed 17 soldiers and said it was committed to anti-terror cooperation with India.

“We extend our condolences to the victims and their families. The US is committed to our strong partnership with the Indian government to combat terrorism,” State Department spokesperson John Kirby said in a statement.

At least 17 soldiers were killed and many injured when four heavily armed militants from the Jaish-e-Mohammed sneaked into the camp in a pre-dawn attack near Uri town.

The four suicide attackers were killed in fighting.
Earlier, the US ambassador to India, Richard Verma, also denounced the killings. “Our thoughts are with the families of the brave soldiers who lost their lives.”
India blamed Pakistan for the attack and called for its global isolation. Islamabad has rejected the allegation.
