US-based Indian Engineer Marries Vietnamese Gay Lover In Maharashtra 

Mumbai, Jan 13: An Indian engineer working in the US married his gay lover in a traditional ceremony at Maharashtra’s Yavatmal on December 30. The bold step comes a few days after the Supreme Court has agreed to review the criminalization of homosexuality.

With the blessings of their families and friends, Yavatmal native Hrishi Mohankumar Sathawane (40) married Vinh, from Vietnam at a hotel a few yards away from the office of the Superintendent of Police (SP).

Hrishi, a B-Tech graduate from IIT-Bombay presently lives in California and is a US green card holder.

According to Hrishi’s social media profile, his parents were against his homosexual affiliation, but he soon succeeded in convincing them. As he was insistent on marrying his gay lover, the family finally gave in.

The couple got engaged in June 2017 followed by an American wedding in October. Their wedding photos were shared on Hrishi’s social media account. The owners of the hotel, where the marriage was solemnised have reportedly claimed that it was a simple get-together.

Since gay marriage is not legal in India, the ceremony was kept as a secret by the families as well as the hotel management. Though the event took place a few yards away from the police headquarters, no one took notice of it.
