UP Strikers Win Indian Wheelchair Cricket League
Gurugram: UP Strikers clinched the trophy, defeating Delhi Sultans by four runs in the Indian Wheelchair Cricket League, which concluded here on Sunday.
The three-day tournament will now be followed by the Asia Cup towards the end of the year which would entail the participation of six countries. After winning the toss, Delhi elected to bowl. UP Strikers put up a formidable score of 96/5. In reply, Delhi could only manage to score 92 runs in 16.3 overs. Sarvesh Kumar Tiwari, President, Para Sports Foundation, said: "It is heartening to note that the tournament received an overwhelming response. Corporates, media and government should come forward to support such initiatives. "Any nation cannot be called as truly developed unless it is an inclusive one.
Tournaments such as these will go a long way in providing a platform to the differently-abled to showcase their talents," he added. Para Sports Foundation is a non-profit organisation working towards the social welfare of persons with disabilities. It has been actively involved in organising various tournaments and championships for the para-athletes.(IANS)
