UoH Tense After JNU Activist Branded a ‘Trespasser’ 

Hyderabad: Protests erupted on University of Hyderabad (UoH) campus on Wednesday after a notice of "trespassing" was issued on Sunday to Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student activist Umar Khalid and suspension of five security officials for failing to stop him.

However, the situation got worse after it was claimed by UoH security that the note was issued after being insisted by members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

A meeting was organized on Wednesday by national students' union of India and other backward class association to protest against Khalid's treatment and suspension of five security officials. Incidentally, the meeting was organized excluding ABVP.

The note read “Some students and security personnel identified Mr. Khalid and there was no record of his arrival as per arrival book. The UoH has declared this as trespassing."

A member of students' union said that many outsiders visit the campus on a daily basis, but none of them are issued `trespassing' notices, adding that Khalid was targeted by the ABVP.

Chief security officer at UoH TV Rao said that, "Our people cannot really frame or write such a letter. Letter was written by members of ABVP and giving in to their demand the superior in-charge signed on the piece of paper."

While students' union demanded that the administration revoke the suspension of security officials, Rao said that a private company that looks into campus security would carry out an inquiry and deploy them at alternate spots after a brief counseling as lack of vigilance was found on part of security officials.

Meanwhile, Khalid took to social media to express his dissent.
