Ulemas To Protest Against Uniform Civil Code On Wednesday
Hyderabad: The Muslim United Forum (MUF) will be organizing a public protest meeting at the All-India Majlise-Ittehdaul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) office in Darussalam on Wednesday opposing central government’s stand on Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and triple talaq. MUF is an umbrella organization of all sects of ulemas.
The move comes after thousands of Muslims protested the introduction of Uniform Civil Code. Many gathered at several mosques across the city and signed a proforma introduced by the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIPLMB).
the Centre has said that it was against triple talaq as it was motivated by the principles of gender justice while defending law commission’s attempt to inform people on the desirability of having a uniform civil code
A few days after AIMPLB had asked Muslim outfits not to engage with the law commission which has sought opinion from the entire socio-political spectrum on the “revision and reform of family laws” and took exception to Centre's stand to oppose triple talaq before SC, the Barelvi sect of Muslims said that the move marks an infringement on personal laws and rights of minorities under the Constitution.
Meanwhile, the Centre has said that it was against triple talaq as it was motivated by the principles of gender justice while defending law commission's attempt to inform people on the desirability of having a uniform civil code.
