Uber driver commits suicide

Hyderabad: Uber, the internationally renowned taxi-hiring app has constantly been mired in controversies in India ever since its launch.

From rape and misconduct cases on drivers, to rash driving incidents leading to accidents and deaths, to local taxis protesting its presence on streets, Uber has faced it all here. A driver of the company was awarded life imprisonment in the infamous Delhi rape case recently.

And now the latest controversy to hit this taxi company is the suicide of its driver in Hyderabad.

The driver identified as M. Zaheeruddin, a resident of Amberpet area in the city committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence on Tuesday.

Zaheeruddin, 35 was associated with Uber for the last eight months. He was actively participating in the ongoing protest against the management over payment issues for over a week.

According to sources, Zaheeruddin was supposed to go along with his brother-in-law Mujeeb to his residence on Tuesday. However when Mujeeb came to pick him up around 7.30 in the evening, he found him dead.

According to Amberpet inspector Ravindra Reddy, Zaheeruddin had an argument with his wife over some property issue. He was found hanging following this incident.
