Two-Day Holiday for Schools and Colleges in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: In view of the forecast for heavy rains in Hyderabad for the next couple of days, all private and government-run schools and colleges in the jurisdiction of the GHMC have been directed to remain closed on Friday and Saturday, according to a statement released by the chief minister’s office.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who is currently in New Delhi, is reviewing the situation with updates from GHMC commissioner Janardhan Reddy and collectors of Medak and Ranga Reddy districts. The chief minister directed the state machinery to be on standby to deal with all possible emergency scenarios. He instructed the GHMC and police departments to set up control rooms to deal with any contingency.

Chief minister KCR also asked them to take the assistance of the state police wings, Rapid Action Force and disaster management teams in view of the forecast for heavy rains. He asked the elected representatives such as MPs, MLAs and corporators to remain in their respective constituencies and provide all possible assistance to the people especially those residing in low-lying areas. The chief minister urged the people to be aware of the extraordinary rains being faced by the city and prepare contingency measures for their commute to work.

Meanwhile, municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao chaired an emergency meeting along with mayor B Rammohan, GHMC commissioner Janardhan Reddy, city police commissioner Mahender Reddy and heads of all departments at the GHMC Control Room on Thursday night to review the situation in the city following the weather forecast for the next 72 hours.
