The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has executed pending non-bailable warrants (NBW) against two persons involved in a dowry harassment case who were at large for the last 16 years, police said.

The duo were arrested yesterday and have been remanded to judicial custody.

A case registered in women police station of CID was pending since 1996 when a woman, Nikhitha Fathima, lodged a dowry harassment case against her husband MdAsham.

In her complaint, Fathima had stated that she got married to Asham in 1994 and her parents gave gold ornaments and household articles worth Rs four lakh. Buther husband and other family members allegedly harassed her physically and mentally demanding additional dowry, according to Additional Director General (CID) S V RamanaMurthy.

There were 10 accused in the case. Though eight were rested and case was disposed of in 2003, main accused Md Asham and Annu alias Syed Anwer (a family member) were absconding. Later, a lower court had issued non-bailable warrant against the duo, he said.

Finally, CID inspector and investigation officer M R Gangaram located the two absconding accused and took them into custody at Ahmadnagar in the city yesterday.
