Mumbai: A shocking incident where twelve minor girls from a tribal school were allegedly raped by their teachers, was reported in Buldana district of Maharashtra on Friday. Aged between 12 and 14, three of the girls are reportedly pregnant.

The incident is reported to have taken place before Diwali. Three of the twelve girls who had come home for the festival complained of stomach ache. When their relatives took them to see the doctor they were told that the girls were pregnant.

The girls' relative then lodged a complaint with the Khamgaon police station in Buldhana district after which the police sent all the twelve girls for medical check up to a hospital in Akola district.

The police have called in all the staffers of the school for questioning. They suspect that the number of victims could be more than twelve.

Meanwhile, former Maharashtra minister and Muktainagar MLA Eknath Khadse said that everything possible was being done to help the girls and their families. However Chitra Wagh, Women's Wing President of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has called for the resignation of Maharashtra Women and Child Minister Pankaja Munde and Tribal Minister Vishnu Savara over the incident.
