TS PAC gets its first woman chair in Dr.J. Geeta Reddy

Hyderabad: Dr. J Geeta Reddy, one of the oldest Congress MLAs, has been appointed as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee. This is the first time that a woman legislator has been appointed for this coveted post. TS Assembly Speaker, S. Madhusudhana Chary made this announcement Thursday evening.

The PAC is a Legislature Committee that scrutinises the reports of the Comptroller and Auditor General , and comprises of 30 members drawn from both the Assembly and Legislative Council. As a convention, the panel is always headed by a legislator from the opposition party.

The PAC chairman post had fallen vacant after the demise of its previous chairman and Congress MLA Ramreddy Venkat Reddy. It had been previously reported that senior MLAs J. Geeta Reddy and A. Jeevan Reddy were both vying for the PAC chairman position.

J. Geeta Reddy represents the Zaheerabad constituency in Medak district. She contested for the Assembly six times and won four times. Dr. Reddy held many portfolios, including Industries, Tourism, and Women's welfare.
