Traffic Cops’ Over-Enthusiasm Causes Pillion Riding Woman’s Death
Vishakapatnam: A pillion-riding woman met a gory end when the police stopped her husband, who was driving the bike, for not wearing a helmet. When the vehicle came to a halt abruptly, the woman, identified as Padma of Ajantha Colony fell down and was run over by an oncoming speeding lorry. The incident occurred on Saturday morning in Visakhapatnam.
Her husband Anand did not wear a helmet and gave it to his pillion-riding wife. As they reached Akkireddypalem near Gajuwaka, constable Naidu interrupted them. As Anand applied a sudden break, both he and his wife fell down. Before she realized, Padma was mowed down by a lorry coming from the opposite direction.
Passersby, who saw the incident happen, thrashed beat the constable black and blue. Anand, who also suffered injuries due to the fall from the vehicle, was shifted to a hospital.
“After Anand's recovery, we will register a case and arrest the constable,” CI Emmanuel Raj said.
