Three minor girls drown in canal

Three minor girls, drowned while bathing in a canal today in Khammam district of Telangana, police said.

The incident occurred this morning when three girls -- M Srija (10), her sister M Upasana (6) and V Varistha (8) went to a canal for bathing under Venkatapuram police station limits, and drowned, they said.

Parents of the girls, who went looking out for them, found their clothes near the canal and later with help of locals located the bodies in the canal, Venkatapuram sub-inspector Jeetendra, said, adding all the bodies were retrieved.

A case was registered and probe is on, he said.
