Three labourers killed in granite quarry blast - Sakshi Post

Karimnagar: Three labourers were killed and another was seriously injured in a blast at a granite quarry near here on Saturday.

The incident took place at Kothagattu, about 30km from here under Shankarapatnam mandal when four labourers were drilling a rock at the quarry at about 4.30 pm, police said. Explosives arranged for breaking boulders went off accidentally.

Due to impact of the blast, the boulders broke up in pieces and fell on the four labourers, killing three of them on the spot, they said. The deceased were identified as Ajay Naik (22) and Rahul Naik (24), both from Odisha, and Mariyappan (25) of Tamil Nadu.

The fourth worker, Bikur Naik (23), a resident of Odisha, sustained grievous injuries and was shifted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Hospital at Warangal where his condition is said to be critical.
