Three drown in well in Andhra Pradesh

Machilipatnam: Three persons, including a woman, drowned in a well while trying to fetch drinking water at a village in Krishna district, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place Wednesday evening at Madhavaram village in A Konduru mandal when the three shepherds while returning to their homes from field work halted near a big well to drink water and accidentally slipped into it, Mylavaram Circle Police Station Inspector D Venkata Ramana said.

As the shepherds leaned on the boundary wall of the well, an old one, to fetch water, it collapsed and all of them fell into the well, he said. Police was informed by some villagers this morning after spotting the bodies.

The deceased were identified as U Venkateswara Rao (55), K Kotaiah (50) and his wife K Nagendramma (45), Ramana said, adding that a case has been registered in this regard.
