Additional forces have been deployed in the Old City of Hyderabad to prevent any untoward incident from being taking place in the aftermath of the jewelry theft in a temple.

Yesterday the famous Goddess Mahankaali temple in Lal Darwaja area in the Old City of Hyderabad was burgled and the thieves made good with costly jewelry of the Goddess, which created sensation in the locality. Stating that their sentiments were hurt with the theft of the jewelry of the Goddess, residents of the locality resorted to agitation demanding the police to take immediate steps to recover the stolen property. With leaders of different political parties too joining the agitation, the police deployed additional forces in the area today to prevent any untoward incident from taking place.

TDP senior leader and former minister Talasani Srinivasa Yadav said that the religious sentiments of the people of the whole Twin Cities were deeply hurt with the theft of the jewelry. TRS leader Sravan said that the theft had taken place only because of the indifferent attitude of the ruling party and the police. No immediate steps are taken to recover the stolen property, they said adding that the ruling Congress had miserably failed in realizing the fact that the Lal Darwaja Mahankali temple is very close to the hearts of the people of the Twin Cities .

Meanwhile, senior officials of the Endowment Department today visited the Mahankali Temple to have a first hand information on the theft.
