Sania Mirza Returns To Tennis On A Winning Note
After a two-year-long gap from the world of tennis, Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza made a winning comeback to competitive tennis at the Hobart International 2020 with an opening-round win in women’s doubles.
Sania was paired up with Ukranian partner Nadiia Kichenok to defeat Oksana Kalashnikova of Georgia and Miyu Kato of Japan in the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday.
With this victory, the unseeded Indo-Ukranian pair reached the quarterfinals, where they will face the US duo of Vania King and Christina McHale, who pulled off a stunner to beat Spanish fourth seeds Georgina Garcia Perez and Sara Sorribes Tormo.
Sania Mirza was on a long break from her profession due to injury and pregnancy. The 33-year-old last played at China Open in October 2017.
The Hobart International will also give Sania the competitive vibe necessary for the upcoming Australian Open too, which will held in Melbourne.
