Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Telugu Yuva Sakthi has on Saturday demanded an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged mysterious death of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa.

In a memorandum submitted to President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and parliamentarians the Yuva Sakthi president Kethireddy Jagadishwara Reddy said there are several unexplained instances in the circumstances leading up to the death of the late chief minister. "Firstly, the chief minister flagged off the Chennai Metro rail on September 21 and immediately on September 22 she was hospitalised. There was no official explanation regarding what ailed Jayalalithaa that required hospitalisation," he asked.

Sasikala and Jayalalithaa

After hospitalisation, several VIPs visited the hospital but none were allowed in the room where Jayalalithaa was treated except Sasikala, Jagadishwara Reddy pointed out. Recalling the incidents of 2011, he said that year saw several allegations against Sasikala accusing her of slow poisoning Jayalalithaa. Consequently, Jayalalithaa herself removed Sasikala and 13 others from the primary membership of AIADMK, Reddy said.

Stating that the public and party workers have the right to know about the circumstances surrounding the "mysterious" death of Jayalalithaa, the central government should initiate a CBI inquiry to lay out the facts before the public, Jagadishwara Reddy demanded in the memorandum.
