Telangana Needs To Create Inland Ports And Partner With Railways

Hyderabad : “ The state of Telangana needs to create more inland ports and start partnership with railways to surge ahead in logistics sector . Currently the state of Telangana is in 8th position in logistics index while Gujarat state is in the top position.” said Mr. N. Sivasailam, I.A.S., Special Secretary (Logistics), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India while addressing the gathering at India’s Logistics Sector: On the Path of Transformation conference held at The Federation of Telangana Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FTCCI) today.

The logistics conference FIRST OF ITS KIND in INDIA supported by state government and trade bodies is held to discuss government policies, opportunities and challenges of this sector and promote and provide technology based knowledge sharing among the stakeholders.

Mr. N. Sivasailam while emphasising the importance of Logistics in modern world , enumerated the steps and policy initiatives taken by Government of India to make easy and transparent process along with ease of doing business . He rued that the gains made in manufacturing is lost at border trade where the cost at borders is 7 times higher making us one of the costliest country in movement of goods. He urged the government the need to shift focus from Passenger ONLY to freight also specially wrt railway logistics.

“ Hyderabad is the best location to put Logistics infrastructure. The state of Telangana has best connectivity, location advantage, country longest Outer Ring Road in place , huge pool of Land bank and investor friendly policies . Many a e-commerce companies have set up and are planning for setting up their operations in Hyderabad” said Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, I.A.S., Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department, Govt. of Telangana

Welcoming the guests Sri Karunendra S. Jasti, President, FTCCI said “ FTCCI is proud to conduct this first of its kind conference on logistics in India with the support of Telangana Government. Trade is expanding at rapid pace and without boundaries. Movement of raw materials and products has become seamless which implies Logistics sector is growing at an impeccable pace. The sector is expected to reach USD 15 trillion by 2023. We are confident that the stake holders will immensely benefit from this conference while listening and interacting with experts in Government , trade and other sectors”

Sri J.S. Chandrashekar, IRS., Principal Commissioner, Hyderabad Customs Commissionerate said “ its high time we need to change our mindsets and become more professional with great vision. ”

The conference among others was attended by Ms. Khyati Naravane, CEO, FTCCI; Sri R. Ramprasad, Editor-in-Chief, Maritime Gateway and members of FTCCI, corporate, entrepreneurs
