Missing Hyderabad Techie Found Dead In Mullakanta Lake
Hyderabad: A Hyderabad-based techie and theatre artist was found dead in Mullakunta lake in Kukatpally on Tuesday. Avakash Mahanta, 28, was missing, for the past five days, following which a social media campaign was launched to find him.
He was working with computer hardware company IBM and was a part-time theatre artist. A native of Haryana, he resided in Prabhathnagar in Dilsukhnagar here.
Police said that locals noticed his body floating in the lake and authorities later fished the body out which was in a highly decomposed state. They identified Avakash through his identity card and when his body was fished out, Avakash was still wearing his office bag and footwear.
Police said that the post-mortem report concluded that the death was due to drowning and suspect that it was an accident or also suicide. His bike was also recovered from the near-by area.
“The victim had no injury remarks on his body. In the postmortem report, the doctor concluded that his death was caused due to drowning,” said Narasimhulu, KPHB Colony Sub Inspector was quoted saying.
The body was later handed over to the parents. His friends suspect that it could have been murder although police say that the post-mortem report has suggested otherwise.
Police were quoted saying by a news website, “It could be a death by suicide too. It is an isolated area, one has to reach that lake by walk as motorcycles can’t reach that spot. One more possibility is that he must have accidentally slipped and fallen into the lake.”
KPHB police have registered a case of suspicious death under CrPC 174.
He went missing on Thursday, following which a police complaint along with a social media campaign was launched, and many from the theatre community including actor Priyadarshi joining in.
