Bhadrachalam ITDA Transfer Likely For Supporting Tribals?

Hyderabad: Adivasi activists in Bhadradri Kothagudem in Telangana have alleged that politicians from the tuling TRS are trying to transfer Bhadrachalam ITDA (Integrated Tribal Development Agency) Project Officer (PO) VP Gautham because he assured the tribals that he will ensure the implementation of Recognition of Forest Rights Act, 2006.

Activists under the banner of Adivasi Joint Action Committee staged a protested at ITDA office in Bhadrachalam earlier this week and demanded that Gautham continue his service as the PO.

It may be recalled that several adivasis and activists reached out to Gautham alleging that forest officials were digging trenches in the cultivable podu lands. This would have led to the loss of livelihood. Meanwhile, Gautham had promised that he will act on it and take take steps for the implementation of Recognition of Forest Rights Act, 2006.

He cited provision in Section 4(5) of the Recognition of Forest Rights (RoFR) Act, 2006, and pointed that out under the section no eviction should take place till the process of recognition and vesting of forest rights under the act is complete.

He then asked forest officials not to dig trenches in cultivable podu land and not to remove the tribals from the lands that are under them.

Adivasi JAC Convenor Vasam Ramakrishna Dora told a leading web portal that politicians with vested interests are trying to transfer the project officer and he demanded that the government allows him to serve his full tenure as the PO.
