ORR Lanes To Be Upgraded Under Electronic Highway Traffic System
Hyderabad: All the lanes in the Outer Ring Road (ORR) have been upgraded to FASTag after HMDA successfully tested Electronic Highway Traffic Management System (HTMS), Toll Management System (TMS) on ORR. FASTag is Electronic Toll Collection system (ETC) under the National Electronic Toll Collection (NETC) Programme of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
Commuters need to buy an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) card enabled with reader strips, by scanning the card at the toll booth. The data will then be sent to a central server and immediately flashed to the entry and exit point of the particular vehicle for clearance to the vehicle. The system will automatically detect commuters who misuse it and charge them the maximum possible toll fee. For this, the trial run has been conducted jointly by toll collection agency Eagle Infra, system integrator Efkon and ICICI.
HMDA has been gearing up over the past 18 months and has successfully completed trials on Tuesday to meet the Centre's deadline for highway lanes upgrades to FASTag for a hassle-free journey. HMDA said that CCTV cameras have been installed at 19 interchange points on ORR and that there will be a manual counter for commuters whose vehicles are not FASTag. Also, the drive will raise awareness among commuters about the FASTag.
