Who Is Nageshwar Rao: Know More
Hyderabad: In an unprecedented move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Friday removed M. Nageshwar Rao as the CBI Additional Director and posted him as a Director General Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guard.
A 1986-batch IPS officer from Odisha cadre, Rao held the position of interim chief of the CBI twice. He had joined the CBI in 2016. He was appointed the interim CBI chief after the Centre sacked Alok Verma from the post in October 2018 amid corruption charges against him. However, the Supreme Court had again appointed Verma to the post in January 2019, and later the Centre had removed Verma again.
Rao had served as the interim director till February 1, 2019, after which he was removed from the post and appointed additional director.
Who Is M Nageshwar Rao?
M Nageshwar Rao, popularly known as MNR in the IPS circles, he hails from Bore Narsapur of Mangampeta mandal in Warangal district.
Born to Seshamma & Pichayya, Mannem Nageshwar Rao completed his schooling from Mangampeta and Thimmampeta, Intermediate from AVV college in Warangal and completed graduated in Industrial Chemistry from CKM college, Desaipet in Waranagal.
He went on to do his PG in Chemistry from Osmania University. While pursuing research in IIT Madras, he cracked the Civil Services in 1986 to become an IPS oficer from the Odisha cadre. He worked for a long period in Chhattisgarh and was appointed as the Joint Director of CBI after JD Lakshmi Narayana relinquished his post.
He is the second Telugu man and first from Telangana to head the CBI, the former being CBI Director K. Vijaya Rama Rao.
