Protestors Lay Siege To GHMC Office Over Illegal Constructions In Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Accusing the Hyderabad civic body, GHMC, of failing to eliminate the illegal constructions in the city, CPI, Congress, TDP and Jana Sena activists laid siege to the GHMC headquarters here on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, CPI secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was sleeping over the issue, while his Andhra Pradesh counterpart YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was reacting sharply and swiftly against structures built in complete violation of norms.

Apparently, he was referring to AP government's sensational decision to demolish Praja Vedika, a government structure built during TDP regime illegally on the embankment of Krishna river.

While Hyderabad boasted of 800 lakes in the past, he rued that none of them existed now due to encroachments that sprang across the city in which civic body authorities also remained complicit. The State government and GHMC were helping out the real estate businesses in increasing their profits, but making life hellish for the common people.

Chief Minister KCR will be taught a lesson. All parties will evolve a strategy and come together to campaign for the protection of lakes in Hyderabad, he added.
