Engineering Education Gets Dearer In Telangana: Govt Allows Over 15 Percent Hike In Tuition Fee

Hyderabad: Putting an end to the uncertainty over the Eamcet counselling in Telangana, the Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee (AFRC), constituted by the State government, allowed engineering colleges to increase tuition fee from the upcoming academic year.

The AFRC which held deliberations with engineering college managements on Saturday permitted colleges collecting below Rs 50,000 tuition fee to hike it by 20 percent and 15 percent for those colleges collecting more than Rs 50,000 a year. The college managements agreed to this proposal and the process of web options entry which was deferred earlier will be held from July 1.

The engineering college managements moved the High Court recently alleging that the State government had not decided on increasing the annual tuition fees as the rules cleared allowed colleges to hike the tuition fee for every three years. The government, however, remained indecisive until the managements approached the court. With managements obtaining a favourable verdict from the court allowing them to increase the fees, the government had no other way but to decide on the issue.

Amidst all of this brouhaha, the Eamcet counselling schedule has been affected. While students were supposed to give their web options from June 27, it had been postponed to July 1. The Telangana State Higher Education Council hurriedly constituted AFRC to decide on increasing the engineering colleges' tuition fees.

As decided earlier the students can now give web options from July 1 to July 4 with changed fee structure.
