Vandalisation Of Ambedkar Statue: V Hanumantha Rao Pledges To Take Up Hunger Strike
Hyderabad: Senior Congress Leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday announced to take up an indefinite hunger strike if Dr BR Ambedkar's statue was not installed at Panjagutta in the city.
Last week, a day ahead of BR Ambedkar's 128th birth anniversary, the Civic staff prevented the installation of a 125-feet statue since permission was not sought for it. The Ambedkar statue was allegedly carried in a garbage truck and found damaged which triggered protests by some Dalit organisations.
Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan, V Hanumantha Rao demanded the state government to install Ambedkar's statue within a week's time further warning of an indefinite hunger strike if the demand is not fulfilled.
The Congress leader said that he as ready to sacrifice his life for this cause. Questioning as to why Dr Ambedkar’s statue was removed when YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s statue was installed in the same place without permission, Hanumantha Rao termed the demolition undemocratic.
