Stranded Telangana Workers Seek MEA Help To Return From S. Arabia
Hyderabad: Telangana workers, stranded in Riyadh for the past six months, pleaded for the intervention of the Central government to repatriate them to the homeland.
A total of 56 immigrants belonging to the districts of Adilabad, Nirmal, Karimnagar and Nizamabad have been working for Joannaou and Paraskevaides (Saudi Arabia) Limited Company in Riyadh.
It is learned that the employees of the company were denied salaries for the last six months as the company was not in a position to pay its employees and was not extending their work permit called ”Iqama”. Under these circumstances, the employees of the company were living under pressure. They even ran out of food and had no place to stay.
S K Joshi, Chief Secretary, Telangana has taken up the issue with Embassy of India in Riyadh and Secretary of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and Overseas Indian Affairs. He sent an SOS request to the local company officials to extend all possible help to the immigrants.
The official urged the Consulate to issue exit passes with the Indian Community Welfare Fund and send the employees back to India from Riyadh. Joshi pleaded with MEA to take forward the matter with the Embassy of India in Riyadh. The state government has furnished a list of workers names, contact numbers and passport details to the Embassy officials.
The members of their family are deeply worried about the situation of the workers and are constantly in touch with them.
