Telangana Elections: Congress LS Heavyweights To Try Their Luck?
Hyderabad: It is learnt that many senior Telangana Congress leaders who had fought on a Lok Sabha ticket in the 2014 elections, are keen on trying their luck in the assembly polls scheduled for later this year. As a result of this, there appears to be a lot of scrambling and jostling for assembly tickets in Telangana Congress this time around.
With the election mood in the party getting more intensified, some leaders are using their proximity to the high command on getting a party ticket for the assembly elections. Among them are many leaders, it is being said, who feel that even if they were to lose the upcoming assembly elections, they could still try to get a Lok Sabha ticket using their influence in Delhi later next year.
Sarve Satyanarayana, who had unsuccessfully fought for the Malkajgiri Lok Sabha seat in 2014, is said to be among these aspirants. It is learnt that he reckons that he would be a prominent Dalit face who would then be in the race for chief ministership, if the Congress were to come to power in Telangana. He is reportedly eyeing the Cantonment (SC) seat. There is a buzz in party circles that he could land the ticket this time around.
Munugodu Assembly constituency in Nalgonda seems to be preferred choice of Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, the firebrand Nalgonda politician, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy’s brother. In 2014, he had contested from Bhuvanagiri Lok Sabha constituency and lost the election in a closely fought battle.
While Ponnam Prabhakar, it is learnt, prefers to fight for an assembly seat, he is ready to take on the TRS/BJP from the Karimnagar Lok Sabha constituency if the party high command decides to field him. He had held the seat from 2009–14.
