Even as the number of deaths in Jagtial accident rises, police has began a probe to find the probable cause that led to the worst road mishap.

According to latest reports coming in, the number of people who have died in the accident is said to be close to 50. It is learnt that the bus which was plying passengers from the Kondagattu Anjaneya swamy temple had over 60 people. Reports say that 50 passengers were women. The hilltop temple is popular in the region and draws a huge number of devotees, particularly on Tuesday and Friday. A majority of the deceased hailed from peddapalli and Jagtial, it is learned.

Telangana caretaker chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao who expressed shock over the incident has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs to the families of victims, according to a news report. He has also instructed the medical team to offer the best treatment to those injured in the mishap.

It may be recalled that a TSRTC bus carrying over 60 passengers turned turtle and fell into a gorge on the Kondagattu ghat road in Jagtial.

Meanwhile, police investigating the matter suspect that the driver could have been in an inebriated state at the time of mishap. Passengers said that the driver took the short cut instead of the regular route which could have also caused the mishap given that the road was uneven.
