Telangana Proposes to Continue with Sarpanches

Hyderabad: Telangana state Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari said that government would consider of appointing existing Sarpanches as in charges of Gram Panchayats instead of hiring special officers after their term, which would expire on July 31.

Srihari gave the assurance to Telangana State Sarpanch Association on Saturday. Later while interacting with the media he said he will urge Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to consider the request.

Earlier, Telangana State Sarpanch Association president Bhumanna Yadav informed that there were 8,684 sarpanches who have been serving their respective villages for the last five years. The government was likely to appoint special officers since the term of Sarpanches is set to expire on July 31. However, Bhumanna requested Srihari to continue their services since the pace of development in the rural areas would be maintained.
