Hyderabad: Telangana has witnessed a growth rate of 22 per cent in its income this year, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said here today. "This year, we have the good fortune which no other state in the country had. Our growth is 22 per cent..22 per cent state owned revenues," he said in the Legislative Council.

The state has achieved a rapid pace of progress in various sectors, he said. Rao said the capital expenditure of the state in the last four years is about Rs 1.24 lakh crore, while the capital expenditure in undivided Andhra Pradesh during the 10 years preceding the state formation was Rs 1.29 lakh crore.

Dismissing the criticism of opposition BJP that the state's borrowings have mounted, he said the Centre has also paid a substantial amount towards debt servicing. Telangana's debt was only 21 per cent of its GSDP, he said. The country should have achieved more progress than it did since Independence, he said.

China, which lagged behind India some decades ago, has now achieved tremendous progress, he added. (PTI)
