Hyderabad, Schoolchildren in Telangana would no longer be made to attend programmes to welcome VIPs in the state.

A decision to this effect was taken by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at a review meeting on Thursday in Nizamabad, according to an official release here.

At the meeting, Rao announced that he would take the responsibility for the development of Warangal, Khammam, Nizamabad and Karimnagar towns.

The Chief Minister said a law would be made making it mandatory to plant trees while giving permission for house constructions.

He asked officials to ensure that adequate number of parks, crematoria, vegetable markets, non-vegetarian markets and dumping yards are built in all cities and municipalities.

Rao said his Government endeavours to make all cities in Telangana slum-free. During a meeting at Armoor, he said the Government would pay the Rs 11.5 crore dues to Sorghum farmers.

A drinking water scheme would be started with Rs 114 crore at Armoor and a 100-bed hospital would come up in the town, the Chief Minister assured.
