Former Minister In Trouble For Evading Tax

D Sridhar Babu - Sakshi Post

Hyderabad: A complaint has been filed against Congress MLA from Manthani, D Sridhar Babu seeking a probe in his disproportionate assets and evasion of taxes. The complaint was lodged with the Income Tax (I-T) department Director-General (Investigation) by former TRS MLA Putta Madhukar, who claims that Sridhar Babu set up individuals as proxies with Edla Srinivas being one of them.

In his complaint, Mr Madhukar said that Sridhar Babu held various positions in the government and accumulated disproportionate wealth particularly during his Ministerial period where he was involved in drug peddling along with the illegal sale of teak and rosewood.

He alleged that proxies, on behalf of Sridhar Babu, would invest all the proceeds of illegal businesses for buying assets in Manthani and different places. Claiming that several properties, primarily the non-agricultural land located along the main road of the Mathani constituency are registered under Edla Srinivas, the former MLA said that the total value of the property purchased as per government rates is Rs 1.54 crore but the key chunk of land was bought at a price of Rs 23 lakh. He also claimed that the Congress MLA had allegedly purchased land in Manthani village last year, at the rate of Rs 44 lakh per acre.

Stating that Sridhar Babu evaded taxes and through his proxies possesses wealth disproportionate to his declared income, Mr Madhukar requested the IT department to investigate Sridhar Babu's income tax filings for the last 20 years.
