BC Leaders Demand 34% Reservation In Panchayat Raj Polls, To Intensify Protests
Hyderabad: Demanding continuation of the 34 per cent reservation for the Backward Classes in the panchayat raj polls, leaders of the community announced that they would stage protests at the district collectorates across the State on 29 December. In a round table meeting held here at a hotel in the city on Wednesday under the leadership of TDP state president L Ramana, BJP president Dr K Laxman and CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy, it was decided that there was a need to highlight the TRS's deception of the BCs, after having won the election on BC votes.
Srinivas Goud, president of the BC Welfare Association, urged the BC leaders from the TRS to provide the 34 per cent reservation to the community. It was decided in the meeting that a delegation of BC leaders would meet Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi on the matter.
Speaking on the occasion, TDP chief L Ramana said the TRS did not even convene an all-party meeting. If the reservation rule is not reinstated, over 1,200 BCs will get affected, he added.
BJP's Dr Laxman said only KCR's family members would benefit from his proposed Federal Front. A protest in Osmania University and a representation to the Governor will gain traction for the protest, he added.
