Nalgonda: In a major blow to the Congress party in Nalgonda district, senior Congress leaders Chilukala Govardhan Reddy and lawyer Dharanikota Ramu resigned from the party membership and are set to join the TRS party.

Chilukala Govardhan Reddy, who was elected thrice as a Councillor was a follower of late DCC leader Chakilam Srinivasa Rao. He worked as an election agent from the 1970s and is a senior leader with the Congress party and has been upset with the way the Party has treated him. He is also said to have been disturbed with the infighting in the party and met TRS minister Jagadish Reddy expressing his intention to join the TRS.

Dharanikota Ramu who is said to be a close aide of Komatireddy Venkatreddy has been an active student union leader and a part of the SSUI. He was also an active Youth Congress leader and was the President of the Youth Congress at one time. He established himself as a credible leader in the Nalgonda Congress party circles. He was also elected as the Head of the Sanjay Gandhi Polytechnic Institute in Nalgonda. Political analysts say that his move to the TRS could be a major blow to Komatireddy and could also affect his campaign for the upcoming Telangana Assembly Elections in Nalgonda.

They both are set to join the TRS party formally in the presence of Caretaker Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday. It is said that Minister Jagadish Reddy was instrumental in bringing these two leaders into the TRS. TRS Nalgonda candidate Kancherla Bhupal Reddy who is said to give Komatireddy Venkatereddy a tough fight has expressed happiness over the two leaders joining the TRS.
